History of Aveda

Aveda is an American cosmetics company founded in 1978 by Horst Rechelbacher, an Austrian-born hairstylist and entrepreneur. Inspired by Ayurvedic traditions from India, Rechelbacher wanted to create beauty products that combined plant-based ingredients with holistic wellness principles. Starting with haircare products, Aveda quickly gained a reputation for using naturally derived ingredients, sustainable packaging, and environmentally responsible practices, making it one of the pioneers in eco-conscious beauty.

In 1997, Aveda was acquired by Estée Lauder Companies, which helped the brand expand its global presence while maintaining its focus on sustainability and natural formulations. Aveda products now include haircare, skincare, body care, and makeup, all designed with the brand’s philosophy of beauty, wellness, and environmental responsibility. Today, Aveda continues to emphasize cruelty-free testing, renewable energy in production, and the use of recycled materials, staying true to its mission of caring for both people and the planet.
