History of Sunkist
Sunkist is a popular orange-flavored soft drink brand originally developed in 1978 by General Cinema
Corporation, which was the bottler for Pepsi at the time. It was created to compete with other
orange sodas like Fanta and Crush. The drink quickly gained popularity due to its bright citrus
flavor and energetic marketing campaigns that targeted young consumers.
In the 1980s, Sunkist
became the leading orange soda brand in the United States. Its success was largely driven by catchy
advertisements and its association with fun, summer, and youth culture. Over time, the brand
expanded its range to include other fruity flavors such as grape, strawberry, and cherry limeade,
appealing to a wider audience.
Today, Sunkist is owned and distributed by Keurig Dr Pepper in
the United States. The company manages the brand’s marketing, production, and distribution while
maintaining partnerships with bottlers worldwide. Despite growing competition in the soft drink
market, Sunkist continues to hold a strong position as one of the most recognized fruit-flavored
sodas in the country.
