History of Celine
Celine was founded in 1945 by Céline Vipiana as a made-to-measure children’s shoe boutique in Paris.
Over time, the brand expanded into women’s ready-to-wear fashion and accessories, earning a
reputation for its clean lines, understated luxury, and effortless Parisian style. Céline’s focus on
practicality and refined simplicity made it a favorite among modern, independent women.
The
brand underwent a major transformation under Phoebe Philo, who became creative director in 2008.
Philo redefined Celine with her minimalist yet powerful aesthetic, introducing timeless designs such
as the Luggage Tote, Trapeze Bag, and sleek tailoring that became synonymous with contemporary
sophistication. Her influence made Celine one of the most admired and influential fashion houses of
the 21st century.
In 2018, Hedi Slimane succeeded Philo as artistic director, bringing his
signature rock-inspired, youthful edge to the brand. While his approach introduced a bolder, more
rebellious spirit, Celine continues to embody the essence of modern French luxury, effortlessly
blending timeless elegance with forward-thinking design.
