History of Similarweb
Similarweb is a digital intelligence and analytics company founded in 2007 in Tel Aviv by Or Offer.
Initially, the company focused on providing website rankings and traffic data, helping users
understand online performance across industries. Its early breakthrough came in 2009 when it won the
first SeedCamp competition in Israel, gaining international attention and attracting early
investors, which set the stage for its rapid growth.
Over the following years, Similarweb
expanded its offerings beyond basic website analytics to include detailed insights into web traffic,
user behavior, and market trends. In 2014, the company secured an $18 million investment from
Naspers, a global internet and media group, and soon after acquired the Israeli startup TapDog to
enhance its data and analytics capabilities. These strategic moves allowed Similarweb to strengthen
its technology and compete with global analytics providers.
By the late 2010s, Similarweb had
established a strong international presence, serving clients across multiple sectors worldwide. The
company went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2021 under the ticker 'SMWB,' marking a major
milestone in its growth. Its executive offices remain in Givatayim, near Tel Aviv, while its
research, development, and core operations continue to be deeply rooted in the local tech ecosystem,
driving innovation in digital market intelligence.
