History of Welch's

Welch’s was founded in 1869 by Dr. Thomas Bramwell Welch, a physician and dentist, in Vineland, New Jersey. He developed a method for pasteurizing grape juice to prevent fermentation, creating the first non-alcoholic sacramental wine for churches. His son, Charles Welch, later commercialized the product, leading to the establishment of Welch’s as a household name in fruit-based beverages.

Over the years, Welch’s expanded its product line beyond grape juice, introducing jams, jellies, and fruit snacks. The company is a cooperative owned by family farmers who grow Concord and Niagara grapes. Today, Welch’s continues to be a leading brand in fruit-based products, known for its commitment to quality and innovation.
