History of Topshop
Topshop was founded in 1964 as a youth fashion department within the British retailer Peter Robinson. By 1970, it became an independent brand, focusing on trendy and affordable clothing for young women. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Topshop expanded rapidly, becoming a major player in the fast fashion industry. Under the ownership of Arcadia Group, led by Sir Philip Green, the brand gained international recognition with flagship stores in London and New York, collaborating with designers like Kate Moss to maintain its trendsetting appeal.
However, Topshop faced challenges in the 2010s due to the rise of online shopping and increased competition. The brand struggled financially, and in 2020, Arcadia Group collapsed, leading to Topshop’s acquisition by ASOS in 2021. While its physical stores closed, Topshop continues to exist as an online-only brand under ASOS, preserving its influence in the fashion industry.
