History of Honey Dew Donuts
Honey Dew Donuts was founded in 1973 by Richard J. Bowen in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Bowen, who had experience in the coffee and donut industry, saw an opportunity to create a local chain that focused on fresh, high-quality donuts and coffee. The first shop quickly gained popularity, leading to the expansion of Honey Dew Donuts throughout New England. Unlike larger competitors, Honey Dew emphasized a friendly, community-focused atmosphere, which helped it establish a loyal customer base.
Over the years, the company expanded through franchising, growing to over 140 locations primarily in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. While donuts remained a core part of the menu, Honey Dew also introduced breakfast sandwiches, muffins, bagels, and a variety of coffee options to cater to changing customer preferences. Despite competition from national brands, Honey Dew Donuts has remained a well-loved regional favorite, known for its commitment to quality and local ownership.
