History of Avon

Avon was founded in 1886 by David H. McConnell, a traveling book salesman who discovered that his female customers were more interested in the free perfume samples he provided than the books he was selling. Recognizing this opportunity, he established the California Perfume Company, which later became Avon in 1939. The company pioneered direct selling, empowering women by offering them opportunities to earn income as independent representatives. Avon’s iconic 'Avon Calling' campaign, introduced in the 1950s, became one of the most recognizable marketing slogans of the era.

Throughout the 20th century, Avon expanded globally, reaching markets in Latin America, Europe, and Asia. It introduced a range of beauty, skincare, and personal care products while maintaining its focus on direct sales. However, as online shopping and retail competition grew, Avon faced challenges in adapting to modern consumer trends. In 2020, the company became part of Natura & Co., a Brazilian beauty conglomerate, marking a new chapter in its history. Despite industry changes, Avon remains a well-known brand, celebrated for its contributions to women's empowerment and affordable beauty products.
