History of Broadcom

Broadcom was founded in 1991 by Henry Samueli and Henry Nicholas as a semiconductor company specializing in broadband communications. Initially, the company focused on designing chips for networking, wireless communications, and broadband applications. Over the years, Broadcom expanded rapidly through acquisitions and technological advancements, becoming a leader in the semiconductor industry. In 2016, Broadcom was acquired by Avago Technologies, a former division of Hewlett-Packard, for $37 billion. The merged entity retained the Broadcom name and became one of the largest semiconductor companies in the world.

Following the merger, Broadcom continued its aggressive expansion strategy, acquiring major companies like Brocade, CA Technologies, and Symantec’s enterprise security division. The company diversified beyond semiconductors into infrastructure software, positioning itself as a key player in networking, cybersecurity, and cloud computing. Today, Broadcom is a global technology powerhouse, providing solutions for data centers, telecom, industrial, and consumer electronics industries.
