History of Tesla
Tesla, Inc. was founded in 2003 by engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, with the mission to
accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. Elon Musk joined the company in 2004 as an
early investor and became its most prominent leader. Tesla’s first product, the Roadster, launched
in 2008, was an all-electric sports car that proved electric vehicles could be fast, stylish, and
practical.
Following the Roadster’s success, Tesla introduced the Model S in 2012, a luxury
electric sedan that gained global attention for its long range, high performance, and advanced
technology. The company later expanded its lineup with the Model X SUV in 2015, the more affordable
Model 3 in 2017, and the Model Y crossover in 2020, making electric mobility accessible to a wider
audience.
In addition to cars, Tesla has invested heavily in battery technology, energy
storage, and renewable energy solutions through products like Powerwall, Powerpack, and solar
panels. With Gigafactories around the world and continuous innovation in self-driving technology,
Tesla has positioned itself as a leader in both the electric vehicle market and the broader push
toward sustainable energy.
