History of Sophos

Sophos was founded in 1985 in Oxford, England, by Dr. Peter Lammer and Dr. Jan Hruska. Initially, the company focused on providing antivirus software for the Macintosh operating system. Over time, Sophos expanded its product range to include security solutions for Windows and other platforms. By the early 2000s, the company had grown internationally, providing enterprise-level security to organizations worldwide, and continued to innovate by adding solutions for encryption, firewalls, and mobile device security.

In 2010, Sophos expanded its presence in the cybersecurity industry by acquiring several other companies, including the encryption software company Utimaco. These acquisitions allowed the company to strengthen its portfolio and increase its global reach. Sophos continued to build a reputation as a leading provider of cybersecurity solutions for both businesses and consumers. Their solutions have been designed to protect against a wide range of cyber threats, including malware, ransomware, and phishing attacks.

Sophos went public in 2015, listing its shares on the London Stock Exchange. It later became a privately-held company again after being acquired by the investment firm Thoma Bravo in 2020. Today, Sophos remains a key player in the cybersecurity industry, providing cutting-edge security solutions to organizations of all sizes, including advanced threat protection, cloud security, and managed detection and response services.
