Since October 7, the Gaza Strip has faced an unprecedented level of destruction due to Israeli bombardment. This has resulted in significant damage to residential areas, schools, universities, and other civilian infrastructure. The bombardment has been described as one of the most destructive in modern history.
Israel has dropped over 75,000 tons of bombs on Gaza Strip, that's more than 178 tons per km2, and more than 3 times the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

Residential Destruction
Over 70% of homes in Gaza have been destroyed or damaged since the onset of the Israeli attacks. This includes about 300,000 of the 439,000 homes in the area. The level of destruction is comparable to some of the most devastating bombing campaigns in history, with comparisons drawn to the bombing of Dresden during World War II.
The following satellite images are taken from interactive map published by TheGuardian showing the destruction of buildings in red:
Tragically, the above image data is not complete as these are not comprehensive analyses of the entire Gaza Strip, where more damage exists.

Educational Infrastructure
The Israeli offensive has inflicted a catastrophic toll on Gaza's educational infrastructure. The relentless assault has decimated hundreds of schools operated by the UN, the Palestinian Authority, and private entities. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Education, the devastation is staggering, with approximately 280 government-run and 65 UNRWA-operated schools either completely destroyed or severely damaged.
Beyond the tangible destruction of buildings, the conflict has unleashed profound psychological trauma among students and educators alike. Amidst this chaos, some structurally intact schools and universities have been repurposed as makeshift shelters.

Sad reality is Gazans have nowhere to go & are not safe anywhere: not at home, not in hospital, not in @UN shelters. pic.twitter.com/Qmi3r3Fby5

Tragically, these educational institutions, once beacons of learning and hope, have not been spared from the violence. Reports indicate that schools providing refuge have been targeted and bombed by the IDF, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and further crippling Gaza's education system.
Mosques and Churches
Since October 7, there has been significant destruction of religious sites in Gaza, including mosques and churches, as a result of Israeli air strikes. This destruction has not only caused physical damage to these historic and cultural landmarks but also led to the loss of lives.
The destruction has extended to numerous mosques across Gaza. The Tourism and Antiquities Ministry of Gaza estimated that as many as 104 mosques have been damaged or destroyed since the start of the Israeli assault. Notable among these is the Othman bin Qashqar Mosque, a historic mosque in Gaza City's Zeitoun neighbourhood, which was badly damaged in an air strike. Similarly, the Sayed al-Hashim Mosque, another significant historical mosque thought to house the tomb of the great-grandfather of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was damaged in an October air strike.
One of the most tragic incidents occurred at the Saint Porphyrius Church in Gaza City, the oldest Greek Orthodox church in the area. It was reported that the church, which had been providing shelter to hundreds of people, was hit by an Israeli air strike. This attack resulted in the death of at least 18 individuals, including several children, who were taking refuge in the church compound. The attack caused extensive damage, leaving many trapped under concrete slabs.
