History of Surf Excel
Surf Excel was launched in India in 1959 by Hindustan Unilever, a part of the global company
Unilever. At that time, people mostly used soap bars or natural materials for washing clothes. Surf
introduced detergent powder, which made washing clothes easier and more effective, especially for
removing tough stains.
In the 1990s and 2000s, Surf Excel started offering more advanced
products, like liquid detergents and quick-wash powders, to meet changing customer needs. One of the
biggest milestones came with the launch of the campaign “Daag Ache Hain” (Dirt is good), which
encouraged parents to let children explore and learn, even if they got dirty. This message helped
the brand connect emotionally with families.
Today, Surf Excel is a trusted name in many
countries, especially in South Asia. It continues to innovate with new forms like detergent capsules
and eco-friendly solutions. The brand stands for both powerful cleaning and positive values like
