History of Ray-Ban

Ray-Ban is one of the world’s most iconic eyewear brands, founded in 1936 by Bausch & Lomb, an American company. It was originally created for U.S. Army Air Corps pilots who needed eyewear that reduced glare while providing clear vision at high altitudes. The first model, known as the “Aviator,” quickly became popular among pilots and later the general public, setting the foundation for Ray-Ban’s reputation as both a functional and stylish brand.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Ray-Ban introduced new styles such as the Wayfarer, which gained massive popularity thanks to its bold design and appearances in Hollywood films. The brand became a cultural symbol, associated with movie stars, musicians, and trendsetters, helping it evolve from just functional eyewear to a fashion statement.

In 1999, Bausch & Lomb sold Ray-Ban to the Italian eyewear giant Luxottica (now EssilorLuxottica), which helped expand the brand globally. Today, Ray-Ban continues to be a leader in the eyewear industry, known for its timeless designs and strong presence in both fashion and pop culture.
