History of Fortinos
Fortinos, a prominent Canadian grocery store chain, has a rich history rooted in the Italian-Canadian
community. Founded in 1961 by the Fortino family in Hamilton, Ontario, the chain began as a single
store dedicated to offering high-quality produce and specialty items, reflecting the founders'
Italian heritage. Over the years, Fortinos expanded its operations, becoming well-known for its
focus on fresh foods and personalized service.
In 1994, Fortinos was acquired by Loblaws
Company Limited, a major player in the Canadian retail market. The acquisition allowed Fortinos to
benefit from Loblaws' extensive resources while maintaining its unique identity and commitment to
quality. Today, Fortinos continues to operate under the Loblaws umbrella, preserving its reputation
for excellent customer service and a diverse selection of products, including a wide range of local
and international items.
