History of Bold
Bold was first introduced in the United States in 1965 by Procter & Gamble and expanded to the UK in
1974. At its UK launch, it became the country’s first low-suds biological detergent, designed to
work effectively in modern automatic washing machines. This innovation helped Bold stand out in the
competitive laundry market and build a strong consumer following.
In 1982, Bold underwent a
major relaunch in the UK as the only detergent that combined cleaning power with fabric softening,
creating the pioneering 2-in-1 laundry product. This new formula offered convenience for households
by reducing the need for a separate fabric conditioner, while still delivering softness and
freshness along with powerful cleaning results.
Over the years, Bold continued to innovate and
refresh its image. In 2004, the brand introduced updated packaging to keep its look modern and
appealing. In 2015, it launched Bold 2-in-1 Pearls, a new format with three-chamber technology that
kept ingredients separate until the wash, enhancing both cleaning performance and fragrance release.
This continued evolution has kept Bold a well-recognized and trusted name in laundry care.
