History of Godiva
Godiva, founded in 1926 in Brussels, Belgium, by Joseph Draps, is renowned for its premium chocolates. The brand was named after Lady Godiva, a legendary English noblewoman known for her generosity. The company quickly gained recognition for its high-quality chocolate craftsmanship and became a favorite in Belgium and beyond. In the mid-20th century, Godiva expanded internationally, opening stores in key cities around the world, including the United States.
By the 1980s, Godiva became synonymous with luxury chocolate, known for its elegant packaging and fine offerings such as pralines, truffles, and chocolate bars. The brand’s emphasis on artisanal chocolate and rich flavors led to its acquisition by the Turkish company Yıldız Holding in 2007. Godiva continues to thrive globally, offering a wide range of premium chocolate products and experiences, from online sales to in-store boutiques, maintaining its reputation as a leader in the luxury chocolate market.
