History of Filestack
Filestack was launched in 2011 under the name Filepicker.io with a mission to simplify file uploads
and management for developers. The founders wanted to address the pain points of handling
user-uploaded content by creating a simple, reliable API that could connect to multiple cloud
sources like Google Drive, Dropbox, and Facebook. Early adoption by developers helped it grow
quickly, and in 2015, it was rebranded as Filestack after being acquired by Scaleworks.
Over
time, Filestack evolved from a basic file upload service into a complete file-handling platform. It
introduced advanced features like intelligent content ingestion, file transformation (e.g., image
resizing, format conversion), virus detection, and a powerful content delivery network (CDN) for
optimized file delivery. Today, Filestack is used by companies across industries to streamline file
handling in web and mobile apps, allowing them to offer fast, secure, and user-friendly upload
experiences.
