History of Delinea
Delinea is a relatively new company name that emerged from the strategic merger of two established
cybersecurity companies. Delinea was formed in April 2021 through the merger of established PAM
leaders Thycotic and Centrify, backed by TPG Capital. Thycotic was founded in 1996 in the UK by
Jonathan Cogley as Thycotic Software LLC, and began as an independent consulting firm before
evolving into a privileged access management solutions provider. The company initially started as a
software product consultancy agency that catered to businesses wanting to improve their IT
departments before pivoting to focus on cybersecurity solutions.
The merger created a powerful
combination of two industry leaders in the privileged access management space. In April 2021, TPG
Capital acquired both Thycotic and Centrify and announced their combination to create a leading
cloud privileged identity security vendor. Initially operating under the combined name
ThycoticCentrify, the merged entity spent nearly a year integrating their businesses and solutions
to better serve their customers. The integration process involved combining their respective
technologies, customer bases, and expertise in privileged access management.
In February 2022,
ThycoticCentrify completed its transformation and rebranded as Delinea, marking the end of the
transition period. The new brand identity was designed to underscore the significant progress the
companies had made as a combined entity. Today, Delinea operates as a leading provider of
cloud-ready privileged access management solutions that empower cybersecurity for modern, hybrid
enterprises, serving over 12,500 organizations around the globe with their comprehensive PAM
portfolio.
