History of Cheapflights
Cheapflights is a travel fare comparison website founded in 1996 in the United Kingdom. Initially, it
focused on publishing lists of cheap flight deals from travel agents and airlines, helping travelers
find affordable tickets. Over time, the platform evolved into a full-fledged travel search engine,
allowing users to compare flights from multiple sources in one place.
In 2011,
Cheapflights’
parent company, Cheapflights Media, acquired Momondo and rebranded itself as Momondo Group. This
move helped the company strengthen its presence in both European and global markets. In 2017, the
Momondo Group, including Cheapflights, was acquired by KAYAK, a subsidiary of Booking Holdings,
which expanded its global reach and integrated it into a larger network of travel search platforms.
