History of Bluemercury

Bluemercury was founded in 1999 by Marla and Barry Beck in Washington, D.C., with the goal of creating a luxury beauty retail experience that combined high-end skincare, makeup, and spa services. Unlike traditional department stores, Bluemercury focused on personalized customer service, offering expert beauty advice and an intimate shopping atmosphere. The company quickly gained popularity for its curated selection of prestige beauty brands and in-house spa treatments.

In 2015, Bluemercury was acquired by Macy’s for $210 million, allowing it to expand nationwide while maintaining its boutique-style approach. Under Macy’s ownership, the brand continued to grow, opening more standalone stores and integrating locations within Macy’s department stores. Despite changes in leadership, Bluemercury remains known for its high-quality beauty products, personalized service, and commitment to innovation in the luxury skincare and cosmetics industry.
